2025:

March  9:  A big thank you to the poets who attended and/or donated to my class benefiting Razom for Ukraine. We raised $1,000 and had a wonderful discussion of just what it is that "poetry makes...happen." As important, we responded to Trump's abuse of President Zelens'kyi in the Oval Office by connecting as free-thinking humans.

2024:

December:  The New Ohio Review Winter Online Exclusive is out! I hope you enjoy my poem, "Acquainted with the Night," which borrows much from other poems--Robert Frost's, of course, also Judy Grahn's “A Woman Is Talking to Death,” Kim Moore's “On the train a man asks me what I’m reading,” June Jordan's, “Power,” and Lisa Shen's “Sixteen Seconds.”

July:  I'm excited to have two poems, "Story" and "Worm," in the Connecticut River Review. You can order a copy or read the submission guidelines (Feb 1-April 15) here. For information about the Experimental Poetry Contest and the Vivian Shipley Award--both still open for 2024--go here.

June: Nancy Gomez Miller's Inconsolable Objects has garnered praise from Ellen Bass, Dorianne Laux, and Patricia Smith. See sample poems at YesYes Books, and my review in New Ohio Review's Summer Online Exclusive. Inconsolable Objects is a LitBowl Best Poetry Book of 2024, and you can buy a discounted copy through the LitBowl site.

I am loving online poetry in The Shore so much that I submitted my own work, and encourage you to read & submit, too! Here is my poem, "My Father vs. Language," and here is workshop attendee Ann Weil's "Estrangement." Finally, here is the poem that led me to The Shore, editor John A. Nieves' "Ode to Agains."

2023:

New Ohio Review Best of the Net Nomination!

A huge thank you to NOR not just for nominating "If You're Single and Touch-Hungry and Hear a Knock at the Door" (I'm beyond thrilled!) but also for continuing to publish one of the best American literary journals going. In recent years, in addition to Emily Lee Luan's Pushcart-prize-winning poem, four NOR pieces have appeared in Best American Poetry and Best American Essays. And the 2023 Spring edition features some sharp essays on reproductive rights in literature. Use this link to submit your work and get a discounted subscription at the same time!

New Voices: Contemporary Writers Confronting the Holocaust

I'm honored to be a part of this anthology in support of the New Voices Project. Ellen Bass and Jaqueline Osherow read from the anthology on Rattlecast 192. Fabienne Josaphat reads her poem at the Jewish Museum of Florida, where you can also hear Steffen Zeichner play a violin saved from the Holocaust, as well as the amazing tale of its rescue.  Please explore this visionary book and recommend its special curriculum to friends who are teachers.
